Sail America Industry Conference to reduce waste

Sail America is doing its part to help eliminate some of the waste clogging up our oceans, lakes, and coastal waterways.
With Sailors for the Sea's help, the Sail America Industry Conference (SAIC) will eliminate single-use plastic water bottles and plastic cups. At this year's SAIC, all attendees will receive reusable, stainless steel cups and water-refilling stations will be placed throughout the conference.
Plastic constitutes approximately 90% of all trash floating on the ocean's surface, with 46,000 pieces of plastic per square mile. The majority of this trash comes from land, and reducing single-use plastics is the best way to begin tackling this problem. With this commitment for the conference, we estimate a minimum reduction of 1,350 plastic bottles or cups from entering the waste stream.

Another way Sail America is reducing waste is to provide all its conference proceedings online. This eliminates the leftover piles of paper and lightens the load in your suitcase!
Seminar slides will not be printed prior to the conference or handed out onsite. Instead, all SAIC registrants will have online access to downloadable session presentations within two weeks after the conference.
