BOQ Team Australia wins Brisbane to Gladstone Multihull Yacht Race

by Chris Dewar on 20 Apr 2014
BOQ Team Australia in Gladstone Harbour. 50th Brisbane to Gladstone Multihull Yacht Race Chris Dewar
BOQ Team Australia led the fleet from the first mark to the finish to take line honours in the 2014 50th Brisbane to Gladstone Multihull Yacht Race at 5:59pm on Saturday evening. With an elapsed time of one day, six hours and 39 minutes, BOQ Team Australia were unable to get close to their 2012 Brisbane to Gladstone race record of 16 hours 28 minutes. They finished just over three hours ahead of the first monohull, Black Jack.

Extremely light winds have been a problem for the fleet which has resulted in two yachts retiring. Boss Racing and Attitude have both retired from racing and are heading back to Brisbane. The light wind conditions has meant for a slower race this year that has led to the fleet being very spread out.

Morticia is due to cross the line mid Sunday morning with the remainder of the fleet not due in until late Sunday evening with the last yacht due in on Monday. Morticia are currently leading on OMR and Bullet Proof are leading on PCF.
