SLAM Combined High Schools Champs - Makin aiming for back to back wins

The start to today’s races were delayed at the SLAM Combined High Schools Championship as the weather forecast failed to materialize, and unsettled conditions meant different challenges throughout the two scheduled races.

Race 5 saw overnight leaders Henry Makin (Avondale College) sailing is Cherub ‘French Tickler’ continued his good form posting an equal first with ‘Hi Roller’ a Flying 11 sailed by Nathan Lilley (Balgowlah Boys High). Third was Jess Grimes who is making a last charge for the championship sailing her 29er ‘Swaggamuffin.’ Unfortunately, the two Hobie 16s of Wil McKenzie (St Johns Nowra) and Caleb White (MacKillop Senior College) who were in the top three, found the light conditions tough going in Race 5 and have now dropped off the podium and are seventh and eighth overall respectively.

In Race 6, 16ft Skiff ‘Eyecareplus’ sailed by Harry Lawson (Marist College) enjoyed the lighter conditions and streaked away for the win on corrected time. Closely followed by Jess Grimes and further back in third was the ever consistent Henry Makin.

Overall, Henry Makin has an advantage over his rivals but only a few points separate the chasing fleet in the top 10. The final days racing is scheduled for tomorrow.
