Kylie Jameson in action - 2014 NZ Women's Keel Boat Championships Tom Macky
The 2014 NZ Women's Keel Boat Championships was sailed in perfect shifty south westerly conditions last weekend. A great improvement on previous years when the girls have had to contend with 20 to 30kn squally conditions on the first day.
After 10 races over the two day's racing Kylie Jameson's crew with eight wins were deserved winners. They were chased hard by last year’s winner, Karleen Dixon and her crew who only had one place worse than second for the whole regatta.
Melinda Henshaw was third. Her crew steadily improved as the regatta went on. Points for Sunday showed just how close the racing became, with Kylie on 9, Melinda on 10 and consistent Karleen on 11 for the day.
Katie Clark's Manly Sailing Club crew came the furthest for the regatta - well done girls, it's time some other crews from outside Auckland joined the fray! Maybe next year we should introduce a prize for the first team from outside of Auckland!
Thank you to Megan Kensington and her RNZYS race management team for the great race management and also to the Etchell’s for combining their nationals with ours.
Next year ladies please make sure your friends plan their weddings for another time of the year - thanks to all!
