ISAF Women’s Match Racing World Championships - Nomination re-opens

by ISA on 26 Feb 2014
ISAF Women’s Match Racing World Championship 2012 Dan Ljungsvik
After a meeting of the ISA Board of Directors where the decision was made to re-open the nomination process, the ISA is seeking requests for an invitation to compete in the ISAF Women’s Match Racing World Championships 2014 which will be held for the first time in Ireland this year in the waters of Cork Harbour in June.

Up to 16 skippers will be invited, 14 will be invited using the ISAF Women’s Match Racing Ranking list plus the defending World Champion, Tamara Echegoyan (ESP) who is also the Olympic Gold Medallist. Ireland, as host nation, receives a wildcard invitation not connected with the ranking list. This is nominated by the ISA, and agreed with ISAF, and will be followed by an invitation from the organising authority Royal Cork Yacht Club. Click here for the Bid Form.

Applications must be received by 1700hrs on Friday 14th March 2014.

The purpose of this request to Irish Women Match Racing skippers is to bring this opportunity to prospective teams to plan a campaign to compete in this World Championships on home waters.

The Notice of Race was published in December 2013 and can be downloaded here.

The event started in Genoa in 1999 and the history is described here.

This World Championship is also the first leg of the Women’s International Match Racing Series and skippers are invited also to apply directly to other venues through the Women’s International Match Racing Association WIMRA. Event ISA Website
