Rob Frost named 2013 Coach of the Year

by Sail Canada on 25 Feb 2014
Rob Frost
Rob Frost started his sailing journey at the Britannia Yacht Club in Ottawa for the junior sailing school and the BYC race team. At the age of 16, Rob ventured into the coaching world, working with the white sail three program, instantly discovering his passion for teaching. Rob attributes much of his current success to his mentor Kai Bjorn, a Canadian Olympian who coached the high performance team at BYC. 'Kai brought in many other top notch coaches and sailors for not only the sailors to learn from, but to also provide me with an opportunity to grow and learn from the best. I owe a lot to Kai for making me the coach I am today.'

Rob coached at BYC for nine years then made the move to Kingston Yacht Club, partnering with Ontario Sailing at the Ontario Sailing Regional Centre. KYC Past Commodore Paul Davis adds, 'Rob has been a fantastic asset to KYC’s sailing program, his dedicated teaching style, his passion for the sport and his maturity in dealing with young athletes has inspired many sailors to further pursue their goals'.

Rob, a former 49er sailor, spends a significant amount of time coaching skiffs including the newly formed 49erFX. 'Rob has helped build a solid 29er program with our partner KYC', explains Glenn Lethbridge, Executive Director at Ontario Sailing. 'He has also added valuable skills to the Sail Canada skiff program balancing time between 49er FX and 29ers.'

'Winning Coach of the Year is a great honour for me to be recognized along side some of my own mentors.' – Rob Frost.

Rob will be in attendance to receive his award at the 2013 Rolex Sailor of the Year event at the Carlu on Friday, February Sail Canada Website
