Primo Cup – 12 J70s in brand new European circuit

by Tanguy Blondel on 11 Feb 2014
J70 - 30th anniversary of the Primo Cup TB Press
At the 30th anniversary of the Primo Cup, twelve J70s took to the water over the weekend.

For the latest petite sportsboat from J Composites, a yard based in France’s Vendée region, this was the first stage of its brand new European circuit. 'Lulu la Nantaise' skippered by Ludovic Sénéchal from Le Havre secured an outright win after taking victory in three out of the four races.

The runners-up were Monégasque skipper Jacopo Carrain aboard 'Carpe Diem' and Marc Pajot on 'Jump Around', whilst the Italian crew of 'Tanspance' secured fourth place.

The next stage of the circuit will be disputed at the Spi Ouest France in La Trinité-sur-Mer, South-West Brittany from 18 to 21 April.

Fred Bouvier, Marketing Manager of 'J Composites': 'Five J70s have been recently sold and are based at the Monaco Yacht Club. A genuine J70 fleet is being formed on the Monaco race zone, which is great news. There is an increasing J70 presence in the Mediterranean and our aim is to extend that right around the European coast and form a large international one-design fleet. We are on the right track. Over 200 J70s have already come out of our yard and over 15 J70s are expected to compete in the Spi Ouest France.'

Finally, it’s worth noting that the J 70 has been voted Sail Boat of the Year in Sweden. Furthermore, the Danish sailing federation is validating the purchase of a fleet of 7 J70s to set up a sailing league reminiscent of that in Click here for overall rankings.
