Kylee's Mexican Fiesta Fundraiser

by Jo Nipperess on 1 Feb 2014
SW
Our daughter Kylee passed away in Port Macquarie Base Hospital in July of 2012 after suffering from an undiagnosed, terminal lung disease and as a way of showing our appreciation of the caring attention she received there under the supervision of Dr Bill Lancashire, my husband Keith decided to organise a fundraiser.

Kylee’s fundraiser will raise funds for a Bi PAP machine which is used throughout the hospital as a vital resource to assist breathing and was the item suggested by Dr Bill Lancashire of Port Macquarie Base Hospital Intensive Care when we asked what they needed.

The event 'Kylee’s Mexican Fiesta Fundraiser' is to be held at the Manly Surf Lifesaving Club on Friday 28th February 2014 6-11pm. Dr Lancashire will be attending.

Many friends and local business owners have become involved and it is both wonderful and overwhelming to see such generosity.

All the funds raised will go directly towards the purchase of the Bi PAP machine.

A sample of prizes are:

• Helicopter Flight over Sydney Harbour and the beautiful coastline of the Northern Beaches and across the North Shore.
• Six Laps in a track prepared Ferrari F430 Supercar Experience
• Exclusive opportunity to join the training ( 2-3 hours) of Olympic and four times World champions in motor boat with Australian sailing Team head Coach Victor Kovalenko OAM. (More about this prize below)
• A four hour Pittwater Cruise for six people -Catered.
• Nitro Circus Tickets – four VIP.
• Diving with Sharks
• Summer Accommodation for a week in Thredbo
• Cavallino Restaurant– four course degustation menu plus matching wines for six
• A Colnago Road Bike

The items above are just a few of what is available to win on the night. There is something for everyone with live entertainment, auctions, silent auctions, raffles and luck door prizes.

Answering to the nickname The Medal Maker, it's a fair bet there isn't much about sailing Victor Kovalenko doesn't know.
The Ukrainian-born Australian Olympic coach has guided our sailors to five gold and three bronze medals since taking charge of Australia's sailing stocks in 1988.

Kovalenko believes he can improve the skills of even the most inexperienced sailor and is out to prove it with a generous offer of attending a coaching session to help raise funds for a special fundraiser.

Former northern beaches resident Kylee Farrell (nee Nipperess) was just 38 when she contracted and then lost her battle against a rare and incurable lung disease in 2012, leaving behind a husband and three young children.

There are more questions than answers as to what caused the disease and research is continuing in the hope of unlocking the mystery.

The local community, along with Kylee's family and many friends around Australia, have organised a fundraiser at Manly Life Saving Club to help Port Macquarie Base Hospital pay for the purchase of a BioPhasic Airways Pressure Machine (BiPAP).

This will help other respiratory sufferers at the hospital where Kylee was given the best of treatment and care from the wonderful medicos and staff.

Kovalenko's coaching offer is among a raft of terrific auction items including, holiday accommodation packages, fully catered boat cruises, a six-lap drive in a Ferrari F430, a dive with sharks and a chopper ride to Palm Beach.
