Manukau sailors Robin Williams and Derek Hickman sailing 'Shaking Laundry' are the winners of the 48th Hartley 16 national champs held at the Manukau Yacht and Motor Boat Club.
Second place went to another Manukau crew of Gareth and Mike Insley 'Bizarre' with New Plymouth's defending champion Alan Holdt and Wayne Julian 'Tight Fit' third. The 21 boat fleet had light conditions for the 4 races on the final day of their regatta producing some very close racing as the Hartley fleet continues to get closer each year.
Well done to the Manukau Y&MBC for their running of the regatta and to Yachting NZ's Kim Admore for his race management. The class is in a very good position now with more and more younger sailors entering the class proving 'it’s not always how fast you go but how close the racing is'.
