Women’s Sailing Convention Founder Gail Hine will speak at the event’s 25th annual gathering on February 1. BoatUS Press Room
The West Coast's premier sailing education event for women is set to commence on Saturday, February 1, at the Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club in Corona del Mar, California. The 25th Annual Women's Sailing Convention is presented by the Southern California Yachting Association (SCYA) and sponsored by Boat Owners Association of The United States (BoatUS).

The event is open to all women from novices to experts, day sailors to racers. The 2014 Convention maintains a multi-workshop format - attendees may select a combination of topics such as: Welcome Aboard (for beginners), Diesels, Going Up the Mast, Introduction to Racing, Tactics, Docking, Overboard Procedures, Suddenly Singlehanded Interactive, Weather, Sail Trim, Basic Navigation, Maintenance Mania, DIY Canvas Projects, How to Heave a Line, Nighttime Sailing and Navigation, Hassel-Free Heads, Spinnaker Rigging, Offshore Cruising, and Introduction to Sailing.

Top women sailors from all over Southern California, many of whom are USCG-licensed captains, will present all 30 of the workshops.

Concluding the day, the organizing committee has selected Gail Hine to speak at its 25th Anniversary dinner. Hine is the founder and producer of the Women's Sailing Conventions since inception in 1990, and is a special mentor to women's sailing groups. A leader of the sailing community throughout Southern California for the past 40 years, Gail was also the first female Southern California Yachting Association Director and then Commodore, Commodore of the Redondo Beach Yacht Club, President of the Recreational Boaters of California, ASMBYC's and Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club's Yachtsman of the Year, and is a recipient of the National Women's Sailing Association / BoatUS Leadership in Women's Sailing Award.
