The Open Bic first appeared in 2006 and was quickly adopted as the other ISAF junior class next to the Optimist. many of the local sailors also sailed Minnows or Optis and enjoy the Open Bic for its one design sailing and planning abilities Especially when the breeze gets up!!
Worldwide it is one of the fastest growing junior classes with the 2013 Worlds in Italy having 175 competitors sailing, with Kristen Wadley of Tinaroo Sailing club QLD winning the U13 world title
