The Gomoku concept + Videos

by Jarrod Day on 25 Nov 2013
Talk about buckles. The quality of the Gomoku rods is outstanding. Jarrod Day
I sometimes wonder just how far technology will take fishing each year, and with that I am absolutely blown away when a new product hits the market. Some products aren’t too far from what’s already available which tend to slip beneath the cracks going almost unnoticed but just when you think you have seen it all, along comes something so advanced that it creates a new craze seeing anglers in droves flocking to tackle stores to get their hands on it.

Fishing tackle manufacturing company Storm maybe well known for their range of fishing lures but their latest development has begun a whole new fishing revolution.

It is not often that I get overly excited at the sight of new tackle, but Storm has developed a range of rods and an entirely new fishing concept that is very exciting.

Gomoku is a new style of jigging which takes the traditional heavy jigging concept and strips it back to its original form allowing anglers to target a wider variety of species using much lighter tackle.

The Gomoku concept utilizes three unique jigging rods each with specific line ratings so the angler can get the most out of the rod for the chosen target.

Being far lighter than conventional jigging rods, the Gomoku range allows anglers to target species from estuary jigging, inshore and offshore depending on where the angler wants to fish.

Like all vertical jigging, Gomoku still uses the same format by lowering the jig to the bottom and working it back to the surface but with Gomoku, the rods are lighter, lines are thinner and the jigs, well they are much smaller ranging from 20g to 60g.

Developed by hardcore Japanese anglers, the Gomoku range of rods is not just for the elite tournament angler but for every angler wanting to get into light jigging. Better yet, the price point is amazing.

Keeping in tradition with top quality rods that already exist in the market place, Storm have fitted the Gomoku rod range with some funky eye catching colours separating each model and have used a Fuji VSS reel seat, Fuji SIC Guides along with a highly distinguishable graphite blank.

Of the models there is a PE 0.4 - 1.0, PE 0.8 – 1.5, and PE 1 – 3 of which all models are available in either a spin or overhead configuration.

I recently had the pleasure of taking one of these new rods for a spin just the other week and found them to very impressive, responsive and just plain tough. Though in the hand you do feel a little under gunned, it isn’t until there is a fish on the other end that they really perform. While we were targeting snapper, from hook set to landing, these rods never missed a beat. Matched up with an Okuma RTX Pro 30, this outfit was one that could easily put a stop to even the toughest of inshore species; better yet it’s not going to put a dint in your bank account. Tough I could go on and on about how good this range is, they are best left for you find out yourself.

If you have ever thought about jigging and had second thoughts due to the heavy tackle factor, I think is about time you had a re-think, go on, I dare you. Put a Gomoku in your hand, you might just fall in love.
