Monsoon Cup- Team Gilmour training in Perth ahead of Malaysia

by Team Gilmour on 20 Nov 2013
Too close for comfort - 2012 Monsoon Cup - 2013 Alpari World Match Racing Tour Alpari World Match Racing Tour

Team Gilmour (AUS) reports on their latest training and racing and take a look ahead to the upcoming Monsoon Cup:

After some down time since our last event, Team Gilmour has come back together in Perth for some intensive training on the Foundation 36 yachts this week before heading up to Malaysia to compete in the final event of the Alpari World Match Racing Tour. This will be our second time competing in the Monsoon Cup and we are hoping to improve on our seventh place from last year.

For this event the team will welcome on board Ben Durham as tactician. Ben is an experienced match racer and Americas Cup sailor.

It would be an understatement to say that Kuala Terengganu is an interesting place to sail! The venue is at the apex of two rivers which create huge currents after rain, compounded with shifty winds, rain and heat, its unlike any other place.

Four days of training here in Perth on the same boats used in Malaysia will be hugely beneficial to our preparation for taking on the best match racers in the World.

The line up for the 2013 Monsoon Cup includes:

Taylor Canfield - USVI - ISAF #1
Ian Williams - GBR -ISAF #2
Bjorn Hansen - SWE -ISAF #3
Keith Swinton - AUS -ISAF #4
Phil Roberston - NZL -ISAF #5
Mathieu Richard - FRA -ISAF #7
Johnie Berntsson - SWE -ISAF #10
Pierre-Antoine Morvan - FRA -ISAF #12
David Gilmour - AUS -ISAF #14
