Sailing Events Takapuna are proud to present the 2014 A Class Catamaran World Championships and Nationals as sanctioned by the IACA in February 2014.

The event will be held at the picturesque Takapuna Boating Club right on the foreshore of Takapuna Beach on Auckland’s North Shore from the fifth to the 16th February. These waters are the home and testing grounds for Grant Dalton and the crew of ETNZ.

The countdown to the A Class World Championships is officially on with 62 entries confirmed for the February event.
International sailors are coming from around the world to test their mettle and sailing skills in these very same waters. Ten sailing nationalities including Australia, Britain, USA, Canada, Spain, Netherlands, Poland, Germany and Switzerland.

This very location has hosted 14 World Class sailing events in the past 33 years showcasing some of the essence of the New Zealand lifestyle and outdoors ethos. The location is nestled in the heart of the Takapuna Business district based around the Pohutukawa lined reserve at the edge of the golden sands of Takapuna Beach.

2014 A Class Catamaran World Championships is proud to announce the family of sponsor that are enabling this great event to take place:

Gold sponsors include the Devonport and Takapuna local Board, Auckland Regional Council, Zhik with Benefitz as silver, and Gull, Wilson Foods, and Oki as bronze.

‘‘We are really proud to be supporting this event. It’s a great venue and we hope to see some spectacular sailing. This class in particular breeds some of the best sailors in the world, and we are really happy to be behind it,’’ said Ulrik Olsen, Business Development and Brand Manager of Gull Fuels New Zealand.

As of November 10, 2013 the entry list totalled 64 entries - with entries closing on December 18, 2013.

Several leading catamaran designers feature in the list including Mike Drummond (NZL) Technical Director for BMW Oracle Racing in the 2010 America's Cup and Pete Melvin one of the Design Team Leads for Emirates Team NZ in the 34th America's Cup
