Product of the week- One Sailor MBS for single-handed docking

by nk on 13 Nov 2013
Will there be someone to take the lines? - not always... SW
Sailing single-handed poses its own challenges, and one of the principle of these is docking without assistance. While at sea with plenty of room, aiming the boat in the direction you want is done with a lot of flexibility. However when it comes to docking the boat, wind, currents and the characteristics of the boat can make it tricky. Now there's a neat aide to make it easier.

With the MBS One Sailor, the skipper of a pleasure boat can enter or leave a berth fitted with oneSailor gear alone; the crew and marina staff need not help. MBS-16 or MBS-19 safety modules are suitable for use in all motorised boats, and are recommended for a stem angle of less than 90°, on pontoons with or without fingers.

OneSailor gear solves safety problems during docking and undocking manoeuvres, even in the presence of wind and/or currents. Black EPDM synthetic rubber structure with two progressive (soft and heavy-duty) buffer areas, supported by an anodized aluminium fittings and secured with Aisi-316 stainless steel hardware. The soft buffer area in the ivory EPDM structure incorporates a position limiter at each end; these can be used for mooring to port or starboard.

This one fender which gets attached to your dock can make docking much easier. The fender is positioned at the end of the slip, so when you enter the slip your bow comes to rest on the Fender. If the bow moves to one side or the other it falls into the cutouts in the fender and so becomes secured.

While your bow is secured in the fender, you keep a small amount of power pushing the boat into it allowing you to attach the dock lines.

This simple solution, lets you dock your boat without harm. One Sailor is up for an Award at METS in November.
