Sail-World.com, the little Aussie battler has been the number one sailing site in the world since March 2013. Now our traffic numbers are going crazy, 251 thousand individual readers in August, an insane 581 thousand in September and we are heading for 300 thousand in August, the exciting thing is 9+ page views per session and the 20+ minutes time on site.
Now to the news...
Some interesting conversations over the last few days, in Alicante Spain, Sail-World talked to Australian Nick Bice, who is heading up the innovative new Boatyard program for the Volvo Ocean Race.
Then we talked to Ken Read, the President of North Sails who doubled up as an NBC commentator in San Francisco during AC34 and Tom Slingsby, back is Gosford, fielding phone calls from AC35 aspirants and Katrina Hamm, a Brisbane sailor preparing for the Mini-Transat in France.
We will post those interviews over the next week.
Meanwhile Sail-World New Zealand's Richard Gladwell was on the water yesterday to watch a promo event ahead of the Coastal Classic when Sean Langman's Team Australia’s matched up against Simon Hull's Team VodafoneSailing on Waitemata Harbour, Auckland.
The Aussies led Team VodafoneSailing off the start line, with a strong afterguard including Mike Sanderson and Team New Zealand skipper Dean Barker in his first race since the 34th America’s Cup.
Team Australia had an initial speed advantage but headed for the wrong mark, giving away the race.
Sean has assured us there will be no repeat today and is confident the Australian boat and crew can beat the Kiwi ORMA 60 in this iconic Kiwi coastal race. We have Richard's photos from today's Coastal Classic start already.
The six-time Etchells Australian Champion, John Bertrand, with a scratch crew of Grant Simmer and Andrew 'Dog' Palfrey will be up against an expected fleet of 50 boats at the Etchells titles being sailed out of Southport Yacht Club from the 11th to 16th November 2013.
The Australian Farr 40 class’ five-part 2013/14 series will commence this weekend with the Aberdeen Asset Management Queensland State Title, 24th-27th October. Video here.
