Guy Harvey Leaves a Green Footprint in South Carolina

Marine wildlife artist and conservationist Dr. Guy Harvey has left quite an impression on South Carolina’s coastline and wildlife, writing checks for $226,000 to assist several state-based organizations.

Dr. Harvey, who recently designed and licensed the highly popular Guy Harvey instant ticket game for the South Carolina Education Lottery, was in Columbia last week presenting checks to the Coastal Conservation Association of South Carolina and the Harry Hampton Wildlife Fund. A week earlier he was at the South Carolina Aquarium in Charleston presenting checks to fund Shark Shallows, an interactive experience featuring sharks native to the South Carolina Coast and to Dolfinfish Research Program to purchase satellite tags for research.

Dr. Harvey is donating proceeds received from the instant lottery game to state conservation groups to fund education and marine conservation efforts. A similar give back program is underway with the Florida Lottery, which recently launched its newest GUY HARVEY Scratch-Off Game following a large player response to an inaugural Guy Harvey game designed last year—the most successful $2 scratch-off game in the 25-year history of the Florida Lottery.

'We strongly believe that it’s important to teach and educate children and adults to be responsible stewards of our marine environments,' said Dr. Harvey. 'Investing our South Carolina Education Lottery funds back into conservation and education programs will allow us to build on our existing work in the state and to support some new programs around the Palmetto State.'

South Carolina Education Lottery Executive Director Paula Harper Bethea added 'Guy Harvey is a gentleman that has become a true partner and friend who cares about the things we care about and is investing in South Carolina in significant ways.'
