Sail-World 1.2m in Sept, IBEX relocates, AIMEX members up for awards

The boating season is heating up, and we have product news, safety advice, new models and industry opinions in droves this issue.
We have all the launches and some exhibitor news in the lead up to Mandurah, and updates from the Gold Coast International Marine Expo, among other events, and news from IBEX 2013.
According to our 'delegate on the ground', All Marine Spare's Leigh Francis, IBEX this year was characterised by a renewed optimism, innovation and anticipation about the venue change in 2014, when the trade-only show will be headed to waterfront, Tampa Florida. It will alternate between Tampa and Louisville, Kentucky from 2014.
Flamingo Bay, the adventure ship berthed at Southport Yacht Club on the Gold Coast, failed to sell at auction yesterday, but talks are being held with some of the registered bidders and some new parties who couldn’t make it on the day.
Meanwhile, you can get onboard yourself for a charter experience to North Stradbroke and Moreton Islands over the next few months, experiencing the thrill of cruising with the whales, dolphins and all the other amazing sea life at play this time of year. Plus, you get to enjoy a final fling on this piece of maritime history before she is snapped up!
Congratulations to AIMEX members who are up for the inaugural Maritime Australia Limited Industry Innovation Award - VEEM Limited, P&W Marine (Cameron Engineering) and Stebercraft International are all shortlisted. A total of 18 Australian civil and defence industry innovators have qualified in five categories, with winners to be announced at the 2013 Pacific International Maritime Exposition (PACIFIC 2013) which is currently being held in Sydney. Winners will be announced tonight.
For those who enjoy the supernatural and the super-high-tech, check out the robot that destroys jellyfish – JEROS, designed by a South Korean team and which is going to prove a saviour to the world’s fishing fleets, many of whom are beset by these gelatinous blobs, some the size of cars!
Massive figures over September for Sail-World and our sites with the intensive and extensive coverage of the America’s Cup driving numbers up to 1.2 million! This is almost double the previous record of 650,000 set in September 2012, off the back of the Weymouth Olympics. Naturally sites like AmericasCup.com beat us for short event periods but they drop away, once the event is over.
The history of these major events is they bring us expanded audiences and we hold a substantial portion of the newbies on every occasion. All the more reason to get onboard and advertise with the Sail-World group, including MarineBusiness-World - the largest marine media network in the world.
