UIM-ABP Aquabike World Championship - Al Abdulrazzaq remains unbeaten

At the UIM-ABP Aquabike World Championship, Yousef Al Abdulrazzaq remains unbeaten in his four race outings in 2013 after completing a memorable win-double on the River Liu to clinch the Runabout GP1 Grand Prix of China in Liuzhou.

France’s Cyrille Lemoine and Jeremy Perez simply had no answer to the pace of the Kuwaiti rider at any point over the last two days, finishing second and third overall.

The Kuwaiti rider was simply a class apart and started as the clear favourite to win today’s two heats after clinching pole position yesterday.

It turned out to be a one sided battle for the top step of the podium with Abdulrazzaq dominating the heats, leading from the start each time and winning both, and for the second time in two Grands Prix simply destroyed a world Class field with his blistering pace.

The only moment of concern for Abdulrazzaq came at the start of the final lap of heat two, when he crossed the start-finish line with a badly miss-firing engine and slowed dramatically. But the 42-second cushion he had built up over Lemoine in second spot was enough for him to nurse his Sea-Doo around the 25-pin 1900km circuit and limp home to take the title.

There was little the French trio who spent the day giving chase could do other than to battle it out for second and third places in both heats, with Lemoine outpacing Perez and Teddy Pons coming home a distant fourth.

It was another frustrating Grand Prix for defending World Champion Francois Medori whose Kawasaki simply did not have the power to match that of the Sea-Doo/Rotax machines that claimed the podium places, with Medori finishing fifth and sixth to take fifth overall.

With a maximum 100 points from four races Abdulrazzaq moves 32-points clear of Jeremy Perez in the title race, with Cyrille Lemoine a further eight points adrift in third.

The UIM-ABP Aquabike Class Pro World Championship now heads to the Middle East for round three in Doha, Qatar 13-16 Aquabike website
