At the UIM Aquabike World Championship, Tiago Sousa was the stand-out rider in Ski GP one winning both heats to take the overall title in the Grand Prix of China in Liuzhou to move into third place in the overall Championship standings.

The Portuguese rider dominated heat one from the start to lead the chasing pack of three for 10 laps and take the chequered flag to win by eight seconds.

Italy’s Alberto Monti made it a hat-trick of second-placed finishes this season with Championship leader Nacho Armillas in third finishing ahead of Mickael Poret.

Heat two was a repeat performance with Sousa again gaining the advantage at the start and was unchallenged throughout and the ever consistent Monti again grabbing second place.

The only change in proceedings came on lap five when Poret passed Armillas to take third in the heat and third overall.

Today’s results moves Alberto Monti to the top of the Championship standings on 80 points, with Armillas trailing him by one with Sousa now up into third place.

Pija Sumer was again the outstanding lady rider finishing fifth overall in both heats to take maximum points from the weekend, the Grand Prix title and move into top spot in the points table. Yue Nixin and Li Qian Qian finished second and third overall.

The Rok Florjancic show continued with the Slovenian Freestyle star winning heat one and then producing a near-perfect set of skills in heat two, the judges awarding him 98.5 points out of possible maximum 100.
