China Coast Race Week 2003

by Lindsay Lyons on 28 Oct 2003
A press conference will be held at Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club at 1430hrs on Tuesday 28th October to mark the start of activities for Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club’s forthcoming China Coast Race Week, which will run from 31st October until 7th November and will incorporate not only the Hainan Offshore Race starting 4th November, but also the Panerai Around The Island Race 2003 on Sunday 02nd November.

Supported by Government as part of its ‘relaunch Hong Kong’ campaign, the latter will feature a full circumnavigation of Hong Kong Island for the first time in 10 years, and boasts world-famous sailors and windsurfers, in addition to Hong Kong's finest. After the formal speeches, there will be an opportunity for members of the Press to put questions to the head table and also conduct interviews with guest sailors and windsurfers.

Head table guests:
1. Mr Johnny Woo, Assistant Director, Leisure & Cultural Services Department
2. Mr CY Tsang, Senior Marine Officer, Marine Department
3. Mr Alasdair Watson, Superintendent of Police (Operations) Marine Regional Headquarters, Hong Kong Police
4. Dr Alan Lau, RHKYC Commodore
5. Mr Jimmy Farquhar, RHKYC Rear Commodore (Sailing)
6. Mr Lowell Chang, ATIR Organising Committee Chairman

Other attending VIPs:
1. Prominent local sailors
2. Lee Lai-shan & her national teammates (Ho Chi-ho, Chan Wai-kei, Chan Wai-man, Chan King-yin, Sam Wong, Yu Wing-ho & head coach Rene Appel)
3. RHKYC General Manager, Mr Robert Bird
4. CCRW / ATIR Organising Committees members
5. Representative from Panerai, Miss Catherine Wong

Full information and event entry lists are available at: www.chinacoastraceweek.com

Away from the sailing action on 02nd November, RHKYC will be opening its doors to the Public so that they can enjoy the Around The Island Carnival. Organised on a watersports theme with representation by many local watersports bodies, highlights include access to the latest Marine Police Launch and the beautifully restored ex-Governor's boat, Madame Maurene. More active participants can try out the Windsurfing simulator and rowing machine, while younger visitors may be more interested in the face painting and bouncy castle!
