Great Lakes Cruising Club expands webinars for 2013-14

Thinking of sailing America's Great Lakes? Well known Great Lakes Cruising Club School has expanded its webinar curriculum for 2013-14 and you don't have to be a member to take advantage of this popular series.

This year, boaters can choose from more than 40 webinar tutorials conducted by experienced Great Lakes Cruising Club-accredited sail- or powerboating colleagues and industry specialists. The interactive sessions are available to anyone who has an interest in learning more about boating and the Great Lakes.

Live, real-time, on-screen presentations with visual aids provide an opportunity for participants to interact with the instructor and each other in a virtual classroom. Sessions typically run 60 to 90 minutes and require only a computer with speakers, a browser and a reasonable-speed Internet connection.

On average, a webinar costs $25 or $20 for current Great Lakes Cruising Club, United States Power Squadrons and Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons members.

New to the faculty this year is two-time circumnavigator, author of multiple cruising books and BoatUS technical director Beth Leonard, who is offering her 'Why Boats Sink' webinar in February.

Leonard joins other well-recognized cruising experts on the school faculty, such as weather forecasting and routing guru Chris Parker, marine refrigeration and power expert Bob Williams, past Cruising Club of America Commodore and safety-at-sea expert Sheila McCurdy and Starpath radar expert Larry Brandt.

Also being refreshed this year is the offering of regional Great Lakes cruising webinars, taught by school-accredited sail or power boating colleagues such as past school Commodore J.E. Fordyce, who the school said is arguably one of the most experienced Georgian Bay cruisers on the lakes.

This year also brings a totally new and modernized web site to better support secure webinar registration, plus new webinar broadcasting arrangements. With these changes all GLCCSchool facilities will now be directly managed by the
Great Lakes Cruising Club.

GLCCSchool webinars are open to everyone, whether they are a Great Lakes Cruising Club member or not.

Members of the USPS and CPS, can take advantage of discounts for GLCCSchool webinars.
