Bank of Beirut Chairman’s Cup Race 2012 Muscat Daily
The 2013 Muscat Regatta, an annual sailing event organised by the Marina Bandar al Rowdha in association with the Ministry of Sports Affairs and the Ministry of Tourism, will be held 7-13 November. The regatta will feature the Bank of Beirut Chairman's Cup Race from Muscat to Khasab. The 230 nautical-mile flagship event will start on 10 November.

The teams at the fourth edition of the Chairman's Cup will compete under IRC, and will vie for a share of the US$50,000 prize money. A record number of competitors are expected [With that kind of prize money - hardly surprising! Ed] for the inshore races of the Muscat Regatta, covering six classes of dinghies, multihulls and keelboats. The teams will be racing just outside Marina Bandar al Rowdha.

Meanwhile, organisers of the Dubai-Muscat Race, which precedes the Muscat Regatta, have promised to expand the event this year. The 22nd edition of annual sailing competition, organised by the Dubai Offshore Sailing Club (DOSC), will begin on 02 November. The organisers of one of the most prestigious races in the GCC have already announced a few changes for this year's event, welcoming cruising boats to join the racing vessels - the cruisers will start on 02 November while racing divisions will begins the following day. Organisers are expecting at least 20 teams to participate this year.

The Dubai-Muscat course will take the yachts up the west coast of UAE to the Strait of Hormuz, where sailors often face fierce currents in the backdrop of the Musandam coastline, and then down the east coast of Oman to Muscat. Besides teams from UAE and Oman, the event has generated a lot of interest from participants from the UK, Kuwait and Qatar.
