NYYC Invitational Regatta - Countdown to Harbour Court action is on!

by Nautor's Swan on 6 Sep 2013 This coming weekend, 20 Corinthian teams from the world’s most prestigious yacht clubs will descend on Harbour Court in Newport, RI for the New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup presented by Rolex and raced in Club Swan 42s.

Nautor’s Swan has been a sponsor of this unique event since the first edition in 2009, having designed and built the Club Swan 42 in partnership with the New York Yacht Club. The ultimate one-design boat for club racing, the Club Swan 42s are the ideal choice for the New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup which takes place from 7-14 September.

Nautor’s Swan is pleased to be hosting the opening reception on Monday, 9 September, which will commemorate the New York Yacht Club’s commitment to onedesign racing for more than one hundred years.

'I believe that big-boat, one-design fleet racing is the purest way to honour the competitive nature of our sport. I think the NYYC Invitational Cup is the supreme event in that regard. The Swans are matched as much as possible to make it a competition of racing teams competing against one another and not one decided by equipment superiority of one boat versus another,' said Ken Colburn, twice Swan 42 Class U.S. National Champion, who will be competing for the New York Yacht Club.

'I have found the Club Swan 42 to be a very enjoyable and challenging race boat. It is a high performance boat with a strong Class structure and excellent competition. It has absolutely lived up to my expectations of what a one-design class should be. The Class races in a series of one-design events throughout the year and we also find members of our fleet in many offshore events. Since it is an amateur class, family members are part of our crews including wives and daughters, which adds to the enjoyment of our racing.'

Leonardo Ferragamo, Chairman of Nautor’s Swan, will be at the helm of Club Swan 42 Cuordileone flying the Yacht Club Italiano burgee. Courdileone took part in the Club Swan 42 National Championships earlier in the season, scoring a first in the second race of the series and finishing fifth, a promising prelude to this event.

Racing begins on 10 September and will see the teams compete for the NYYC Invitational Cup Trophy and a Rolex timepiece, which will be presented at the prize giving on September Nautors Swan 60 Class
