This weekend the Chicago Yacht Club will host the annual Verve Cup Inshore Regatta, featuring two days of the best one-design sailing in the Midwest.
On Saturday and Sunday, identical classes will compete to determine which boat has the best skipper and crew. Laser, Vanguard 15, Melges 24, Etchells, Shields, Luders 16, Colgate 26, Rhodes 19, Solings, J/70s and J/24 keelboat classes will take part this year.
Race Co-Chair Sam Veilleux said there are currently 86 boats registered in 10 different one-design classes, which exceeds last year's record.
'We are proud this year to have a brand new J/70s class featuring 20 entries, as well as to be welcoming a Colgate 26 fleet to the course for the first time ever,' Veilleux said.
During the regatta, Chicago Yacht Club will welcome over 300 racers and guests at its Belmont harbor clubhouse.
Tomorrow’s Verve Cup Inshore racing begins at 10:30 a.m. CST.
