Inner Spring Regatta at New York YC preview

by NCYC Media on 1 Aug 2013
2013 NCYC’s Inner Spring Regatta - Inner Spring Start by Carsten Kapinkski Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club http://www.ncyc.net.au/
The 2013 Inner Spring regatta will be held over the weekend of the 31st August and 1st September 2013. Ably assisted by environmental consulting company EnviroPacific Services this year will mark the third birthday for this spring IRC and PHS keel boat regatta which has grown year on year.

With free competitor berthing for yachts for the week leading up to and the week following the regatta the event represents a great opportunity for those yachts deciding not to migrate north for the winter, following the Sydney to Goldcoast yacht race, to stop in and have an enjoyable weekend of racing in the Newcastle prior to returning to the ‘big smoke’. Further, NCYC’s Inner Spring Regatta is a great way to wash off the winter cobwebs and spring into the 2013-14 summer of sailing as well as ‘test out the track’ on which the 2014 Audi IRC Australian Championship will be conducted next year.

To date NCYC has received entries from 13 yachts for the regatta with the majority of yachts being between 35 to 45 feet in length with the exception of the Volvo 70 Southern Excellence which has confirmed it intention to compete and will mark a record in relation to the largest yacht to compete in an NCYC organised race or series.

With up to three windward leeward races on the Saturday on an offshore course just beyond the entrance to the Hunter River and two races scheduled for the Sunday which will include a 20 - 25 mile distance race the two day regatta will cater for a variety of yacht designs. Similar to last year the regatta will include a social dinner at the Club on the Saturday night for crews (included in the entry fee) and live entertainment which was well received by crews.

More details regarding the 2013 EnviroPacific Inner Spring Regatta and a current entry list can be found at NCYC website
