Sail Indonesia route - they’ve just set off for a three month adventure SW
86 yachts from many countries of the world have just left Darwin on the annual Sail Indonesia yacht rally. This is the beginning of a three months adventure linking destinations across Indonesia.
A large crowd of land and sea based spectators including the Indonesian Ambassador cheered on the yachts taking part in the rally, now in its thirteenth year.
The blue sky made a welcome start, but the calm conditions made it a slow departure for the yachts, which hail, not only from Australia, but from other parts of the Pacific the Pacific, the Americas, the Carribean and Europe.
The first stop will be Kupang in East Timor, and from there they'll begin their island hopping way across the archipelago which makes up Indonesia. There are to be a linked series of Events and Cultural Festivals at the different stopovers across the country on the islands of Timor, Banda, Lembata, Wakatobi, Flores, Sulawesi, Bali, Java, Borneo, Belitung and finally on to Batam or Bintan just south of Singapore.
The rally is expected to last until the end of October.
