Elan 400 wins European Yacht of the Year nomination

by Des Ryan on 29 Jul 2013
Elan 400 sailing SW
The Elan 400, just announced as a nomination for the European Yacht of the Year in the Performance Cruiser category, is the newest yacht in the range, featuring dynamic lines and a great balance between comfort and performance.

Elan, a Slovenian company, began building small boats as well as kayaks and canoes in 1949 for the local market, but early commercial success came with exports to the USA. However, it wasn't until the 1970's that the organisation started building sailing boats, and they have been growing as a popular and successful brand ever since. The company has consistently fared well in the European Yacht of the Year stakes, becoming a winner multiple times.

The Elan 400 boasts a smart innovative interior with two- or three-cabin layouts and one or two heads, a flip-up chart table in saloon, modern and spacious ergonomic interior with optimized storage space, flush Skyview hatches for more light and visibility and new hull window design.

Inheriting the qualities of her predecessor Elan 410 and adding some exciting new features from the immensely successful Elan 350 (2011 European Yacht of the Year award winner), the Elan 400 is fast and elegant and continues to set new standards in the 40-foot segment.

Matt Hayes, CEO of disributor US Yachts, test sailed the 400 in Slovenia in May, and was very impressed with the high tech sailability and comfort. 'The quality of the workmanship was exceptional. The great features of the Elan range include chimed hulls, twin rudders, vacuum infused hull and decks – ensuring that the yachts are very strong, light and exude powerful performance.'

All Elan’s yachts are certified by Germanischer Lloyd, designed to withstand the toughest conditions and carry the ISO 14001 standard for environmentally-friendly production.
