Laser North American Championships Day 2

by Marianne Davis on 27 Jul 2013
Laser North American Championships 2013 CORK
Laser North American Championships second day of racing got underway today at Cork in Kingston. We have 250 athletes competing with 73 Laser’s, 162 Radial’s and 15 4.7’s on the race courses. The weather this morning was cool with light winds. The Radial red fleet headed out first to get the third race that they were not able to get in yesterday. Following that race, Brenda Bowskill a member of the Canadian Sailing Team (CST) was leading.

The Laser fleet found some wind and were able to complete three races today. At the end of the day the Canadians are leading the pack, with Canadian Sailing Team member Lee Parkhill leading with five first place finishes over the last two days. He is followed by David Wright another CST member, Greg Clunies a Canadian identified athlete and Robert Davis a CST member and local Kingston Native.

The 4.7 fleet were also able to get three races in today. Leading the charge is Macey Mccann from Texas followed JESSICA Lietz from New York, and Parker Hughes another Texas native.

The Radial fleet had a long day waiting for the wind to fill. They were able with much effort from the race committee to get the fourth race completed. Brenda Bowskill of the CST had another first place finish in her heat and leads the overall Radial fleet. Erika Reineke of the USA and a former Youth World Champion is sitting right behind Brenda in second place. Erika is followed by fellow US sailor Gary Prieto.

Following today’s results the fleet will be split into Gold, Silver and Bronze (for the Radials). We are hopeful that tomorrow will bring another beautiful Kingston day and good winds.

To all watching we will continue to post updates and results as they are available throughout the race day.
