Suffolk Scouts had a special guest joining them out on the water last Sunday (22 July) when British Sailing Team’s Nic Asher paid a visit to St Edmundsbury Sailing and Canoeing Association (SESCA).

SESCA were crowned the winners of the RYA Push the Boat Out Social Media competition with the star prize being a visit from two time 470 World Champion Nic who is currently campaigning for the 2016 Olympic Games in the 49er class.

Nic who grew up In Lowestoft, Suffolk, took time out of his busy sailing schedule to sign autographs and talk to the youngsters about sailing and his career so far. He also joined them out on the water and helped with the instruction of their very first sailing lesson.

SESCA Commodore Kieron Adams said 'We were delighted to win the RYA Push the Boat Out competition. The Suffolk Scouts have just become group members of our club so we invited them to come along and spend the day with Nic. It was a great way to celebrate, the scouts had a brilliant time and Nic gave them a truly inspirational introduction to the sport'.

SESCA took part in RYA Push the Boat Out, an RYA initiative which encourages clubs and centres across the UK to hold open days and invite those who live locally to ‘have a go’ at sailing and windsurfing. RYA Push the Boat Out 2014 will take place on 17-18 May
