'World's Best Water Sports' on Perth's doorstep

by Emiliano Barzotto on 2 Jul 2013
Perth Burswood SW
Perth’s waterfront will win a new international title when the Burswood Water Sports Centre is declared ‘The World’s Best Water Sports Facility’.

This global recognition of Perth’s water sports playground comes after a worldwide search by the International Water Sports body for a facility that can be regarded internationally as a ‘World Icon’.

International President of the Water Ski and Wakeboarding Federation (IWWF), Mr Kuno Ritschard, was in Perth this morning to confer the award.

‘I’ve seen water sports venues through-out the world, and there are few that compare to Perth’s Burswood centre for both the incredible breadth of sports available to water sports lovers in such an idyllic location,’ he said.

Mr Ritschard, who is visiting from the international water sports HQ in Switzerland, said the venue in Perth is critical to the sport at an international level.

‘The IWWF believes the Burswood Water Sports Centre is the world’s best international venue, and a world icon of the sport. Its near-city location and world class facilities make it an attraction for water sports enthusiasts the world over.’

Receiving the honour on behalf of the WA Recreational Water Sports Association (WARWSA), President John Pettersson said the many associations and members he represented were proud to have delivered a world sporting icon for Western Australia.

‘Water Sports enthusiasts from around the world will now be itching to get to Perth and get out on this magnificent stretch of water,’ he said.

‘Not only do we provide a beautiful location at the city’s doorstep, we’ve have the facilities to match. We have boat ramps, floating docks, storage facilities, boat parking, meeting and social rooms, a Club Bar, conference rooms and all the mod cons that you would expect in a world icon sporting facility.’

The Burswood Water Sports Centre is one of the few venues of its type in the world, with two slalom courses, two ski jumps, and a wake board facility, all crucial to international competition.
