Beneteau First 35 - a first-hand account

Beneteau First 35 Creating Demand
The Beneteau First 35 is collaboration with Farr Yacht Designs and has been very successful achieving the 2010 'Best Yacht' Award at the Helsinki International Boat Show, amongst many other accolades.

A FIRST 35 Beneteau was the decision for Graeme Neuhaus and his family, when considering their new yacht.

We recently spoke with the Neuhaus family to have a chat about their First 35, which is currently in transit from France on the cargo ship, Figaro. She will arrive just in time for the Sydney Boat Show where she will be displayed at the Vicsail stand.

The Neuhaus family enjoy twilight sailing, with over 25 years experience of sailing in the Harbour along with extensive blue water racing. They had a successful Drummoyne Twilight Series last season on their 26-foot yacht. Skipper Graeme Neuhaus is looking forward to stepping up into a larger yacht that handles and performs like a smaller boat. 'The First 35 will be like having a little big boat,' commented Graeme.

The FIRST 35 they have chosen has been the influence and encouragement through the expertise of Jason Neuhaus, Graeme’s eldest son and Rigging Manager at Noakes, and Matthew Fisher, 16-foot skiff sailor and family friend.

Choosing the lead keel option, the first of her kind in Sydney, the crew and Graeme are expecting a bit more height upwind and increase her overall performance in the local twilight, Ocean Point Score, and Sail Port Stephens standings this year and in years to come.

The FIRST 35 is adaptable for a great cruising yacht with the incredible space below with two double cabins and a large saloon. The height of the saloon offers generous headroom, with Graeme and his sons all over 6 foot and fitting comfortably.

The Neuhaus family are thrilled to have a boat that they can share with their family and friends. 'I’ve always admired Beneteau on the Harbour,' said Raelyn Neuhaus.

Now the big question---what should she be called? The Neuhauses are open to any suggestions!

If you’d like to find out more about the FIRST 35 or to offer any suggestions for some names, please visit www.vicsail.com or call Vicsail 02 9327 2088.
