NoPowerSMS - the app that alerts you to power outage

Devised from painful, personal experience, NoPowerSMS is a clever app for android phones that will alert you when your power goes out, thus avoiding hours of cleaning up messy defrosted freezers.

Ian Sargent has a boat himself and experienced this very scenario. 'My wife and I turned up to the boat and found that batteries had been flat for a few weeks. The bait had thawed and gone off, among other things. After two hours spent cleaning out the boat, we thought there must be a better way, but like all things, you get too busy to follow up.

'Then, when it happened a second time, I went searching on the Net and found there were systems that offered ‘the works’ for about $1000, which was more than I wanted to spend. So I am savvy enough to realise that a phone knows when the power goes off and can send me a message. I worked with an app designer and NoPowerSMS is the result.'

NoPowerSMS is an app that runs on android phones, is available worldwide and costs just $14.95 via Google Play.
'It’s a cost effective system for boaties, or anyone for that matter, to monitor the status of a power supply.'

NoPowerSMS uses a feature packed, simple to operate app that works on Android phones, to automatically send 'power disconnected' and 'power reconnected' messages via an SMS text message, directly to the user’s everyday phone (the recipient phone can be Android or iOS – any phone capable of receiving SMS text messages will work).

The app can be customised to send to one or multiple recipients, with messages being delayed by preset time periods.

NoPowerSMS also features a 'Status update' which sends an SMS to the user at predetermined intervals (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.) so the user can relax in the knowledge that everything is still working.

An 'Audio only' mode prevents text messages being sent, but sounds an alert. This is the mode generally used when underway. If the user forgets to turn NoPowerSMS back on again, it will automatically alert them via SMS after a pre-set delay. The Mode setting on the on-site phone can be adjusted simply by texting 'On' from any phone to the on-site phone.

This allows the user to turn NoPowerSMS on remotely… a welcome relief if you’ve returned home after a day on the water.
The end result is that spoilage, ensuing mess and potential battery damage created by power cuts can now be avoided at a cost that is within everybody’s reach.
