Saturday 20th July will see the Royal Southampton Yacht Club running this year’s Corona Extra Island Double Race. Commencing from 6 A.M., the race will go east-about to and from the Royal Corinthian’s start/finish line at Cowes via Bembridge, St Catherine’s and the Needles.

Now in its thirty-fourth year, the Royal Southampton’s annual Double-Handed Series comprises eight races; four inshore and four offshore. The Island Double is the fifth race of this year’s Main Series and the second of the Inshore Series.

Attracting over 100 boats, racing will be in classes for IRC and RSYC rated monohulls, plus MOCRA multihulls. This year, RORC’s new Limited Validity TCCs will also be available for cruiser-racers who’d like to try their hand at racing under IRC(more information on the RORC website).

As well as competing for Race and Series class trophies, all crew completing the circumnavigation will receive an engraved RSYC Island Double tumbler. There’s also a separate prize for the best result of any boat over 20 years of age and not forgetting a special prize for the monohull or multihull that beats the current fastest times for getting round.

For more information and entry forms please contact the Royal Southampton Yacht Club on 023 8021 0872 or visit their website.
