Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club Nautica Autumn Regatta 2003 Day 1

by Lindsay Lyons on 14 Sep 2003
Sunny skies and brisk conditions marked the first day of the RHKYC Nautica Autumn Regatta 2003. Having carried out his early afternoon inspection, Race Officer Graham Hicks opted for a Hung Hom start and with the wind shifting throughout the afternoon, most classes started with a committee boat bias.

Fierce competition on the start line resulted in fierce exchanges of words and a general recall for the over-eager Cruiser and Impala classes while other classes recorded several boats OCS.

Once underway however, all boats enjoyed 10-13 knot winds for the duration of their race. The quality of the racing conditions was reflected in several close finishes, particularly in the Etchells and the Magic 25's where the leading class boats finished within a second of each other on the water.
