NB Expands its Sail Coaching Activities with NB Sailcoach

by NB Sailsports on 17 Jun 2013 NB Sailsports, Australia’s premier ISAF dinghy supplier, has announced exciting plans to further expand its business in Australia.

NB Director, Rob McMillan announced, 'we are very excited to have hired Mr Rob Brewer to be our new Head Coach to lead our high performance sailing activities.

Initially we will be operating from our NB location in Rose Bay, Sydney. Offering coaching from the grass roots club level to the high performance level.

Over the last few months we have been recruiting a network of coaches locally and overseas and will have more announcements and opportunities for sailors in the coming weeks'.

Rob Brewers credentials are exceptional and include coaching sailors to win National titles in nine different classes. The former 470 campaigner has coached at multiple World, European and Asian Championships. He is a pioneer and expert in the Optimist class.

Brewer highlighted that, 'I am excited to be a part of this venture. Club level sailors are rarely offered access to the wealth of knowledge at the high end but through NB SailCoach the know how will filter through into grass roots at Club level. Nb’s programs will complement Club coaching as well as provide support at the high performance end.'

McMillan further commented, ' this development is a natural extension of our company and will see us recruit more coaches, as well as leverage the coaching talents of our current staff including General Manager, Laura Caldecoat (nee Baldwin), Australian Olympic Laser Radial Coach 2012, and Team GBR Olympian 2004. NB Queensland’s Benjamin Franklin, former Australian Youth Champion 2009 and Laser Radial Champion. And it won't stop there!'

McMillan’s son (Joe) is currently working with the Dinghy Academy in Valencia, Spain where Luca Devoti, Olympic Silver Medalist, has created a new training powerhouse as a key part of the ISAF Emerging Nationals program for the Finn class. McMillan Senior further added 'we see the IP that Luca has created and will exploring this and other opportunities to put Australia higher on the list of priorities for overseas Sailors to come and train, this will have enormous benefits for broadening and enriching the local racing scene with the collective learning of aspiring sailors'.

NB will publish a program of training for Silver and Open Fleet sailors, which will commence after QLD Youth Week. In the meantime sailors are encouraged to contact NB to find out more about the programs or check the website and NB's facebook pages for announcements.

Both McMillan and Brewer will be present at the Optimist East Coast Champs at Middle Harbor Sailing Club this weekend, 'we think there will be a lot of positive excitement about this development from sailors, parents and clubs', McMillan commented.

In the next few weeks Rob Brewer will be off to the Optimist Europeans in Hungary where he is helping a small contingent of Aussie Sailors prior to commencing this new exciting project with NB Sailsports.
