Tahiti superyacht sessions, Korea growing, Marine15 to build on succes

by Jeni Bone, editor on 4 Jun 2013
After the flurry of news from Sanctuary Cove last week, it's back to near normal with even coverage of the local and global marine industry, including announcement of IBEX registrations now open, and an initiative from our friends at Superyacht Australia - information sessions in Tahiti for superyacht owners and Captains interested in finding out more about cruising Australian waters, scheduled for Friday 28 June.

Australia’s key regional superyacht clusters will be present including Superyacht Great Barrier Reef, Marine WA, NSW Superyacht Industry Association and Superyachts Queensland. Superyacht Australia CEO MaryAnne Edwards said the event would be he ideal opportunity to show that along with idyllic cruising grounds, Australian marine businesses can deliver quality work, to budget and deadlines. 'We have the expertise, capability and reputation for delivering to the owners and captains requirements.'

The Korea International Boat Show in early June was packed with marine-leisure exhibitors, as well as other recreational pursuits like diving, camping and caravanning.

Our Asia editor, Guy Nowell reports the country is progressing steadily in its investment in boating, with 19 operational marinas and many more underway or on the drawing boards of this affluent and motivated nation.

Back in Australia with with no less international flavour, we also have a post-event summary from the 2013 ASMEX outlining the value of the event to industry, as well as key outcomes, and great accolades for the team at Navico, beating Microsoft and Sprint International to win the 2013 New Zealand Hi-Tech Award in the New Zealand Trade and Enterprise Best Contribution to the New Zealand Hi-Tech Sector from a Multinational Company. As a global company with strong Kiwi roots and ingenuity, the team at Navico is justifiably proud.

There's lots about the entertainment and boats on show at the upcoming Melbourne Boat Show, and Mackay Marine Festival will host its third event, 22 & 23 June, in this flourishing hub of boating.

AND, the announcement that we can again anticipate a strong turnout for Marine15, thanks to the success of Marine13, the inaugural event hosted in Sydney. Western Australia and Queensland are the leading contenders to host the next multi-stream international boating industry conference and trade exhibition in 2015.

Dates and location for Marine15 will be revealed at the end of August.

There's an assortment of new products, opportunities and events coming up and plenty more on the horizon, so pop back frequently.

Pleasant boating!

They just have to be Taswegians!
Yes, they are completely unique. Little wonder too, as their home is just so special. Yes, they are completely unique. Little wonder too, as their home is just so special. However, rather than talk about all 575,000 souls that call Tasmania home, we are going to focus in on just two. Yes. It's the number you need to go double-handed.

Pivot on this
I despise the way ‘pivot' got used as many times as those wretched QR codes... Yes indeed. As much as I would hate to take people back to the COVID era, that's exactly what I've just done. Making that problematic trip back in time look good, is how much I despise the way ‘pivot' got used as many times as those wretched QR codes.

Watching the growing sailing scene in China
A fun weekend at the 2025 Lake Fuxian Regatta I've become fascinated with the growing sailing scene in China. I had so many preconceptions ahead of my first visit to the country in 2024, which were blown out of the water on that trip, and this was reaffirmed at the Lake Fuxian Regatta.
