Horizon PC60 is far and away the Belle of this Boat Show

by Jeni Bone on 26 May 2013
Horizon has the new and much-anticipated PC60 on show Jeni Bone
At just over 60 feet, to accommodate either a standard shaft drive or the ZF 4000 series POD drives at the owner’s option, the Horizon PC60 may not be the largest on display at the 2013 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, nor the most expensive (leave that honour to its stable mate, the P110 tri-deck at $9.9m). But it certainly has sparked the most interest.

With its capacious raised cockpit, undercover for all-weather entertaining, which leads in to the saloon and galley area, more like a boutique apartment than a boat, this power cat is unlike anything you will see at SCIBS, or anywhere else.

The most surprising feature is the forward master suite, separated from the saloon/galley by a cunning glass panel that frosts over at the flick of a switch and offers owners a panoramic view over the bow.

Available as an Open Flybridge or Enclosed Pilothouse, this is hull number 4 and the first of its kind in Australia, arriving just last week and only off the production line a fortnight before that, bought by the dealer himself, Russell Wright for his own pleasure as well as a demonstrator for what he predicts will be a popular model.

'I didn't want to bring it in and have it bought by somebody in WA or Darwin. I wanted it here on the Gold Coast where I can take it out, show people how well it performs. People will love it!'

The PC60 now offers the choice of 3 or 4 cabin configuration. As with the PC58, the PC60 is built in the Taiwan mega-factory of Horizon Yacht with the award-winning patented SCRIMP (Seeman Composite Resin Infusion Molding Process) system, plus Horizon Yacht's 5 Axis CNC milling machine - technology derived from the company's background in aeronautical engineering.

Naval architect, Angelo Lavranos designed the tank tested semi displacement hull design which allows for easy manoeuvrability and greater responsiveness in a variety of sea conditions supporting a smoother ride and higher safety standards in all situations, even the roughest seas.

'The Horizon PC series is designed to go where other yachts can’t even begin to venture,' says Wright. 'That's why it will be popular in markets from Australia, the US and Asia.'

According to Wright, the space, styling and luxury of the PC60 is equal to megayachts many times the price, with the bonus of comparatively lower running and maintenance costs.

The Horizon Power Catamarans design team of Stuart Hegerstrom, Richard Ford and Angelo Lavranos has worked together on hundreds of catamaran projects over 30 years, most of them sold in to the US, Europe and South Africa.
