InterCollegiate Sailing Association National Championships commence

by Jen Mitchell on 22 May 2013
SW
The Intercollegiate Sailing Association’s (ICSA) three national championships, Sperry Top-Sider/ICSA Women’s National Semi-Final and Final Championship, APS/ICSA Team Race National Championship, and the Gill/ICSA Coed Dinghy National Championship commence Tuesday, May 21.

The Women’s event will last for four days immediately followed by the Team Race Championship on May 25 and the Dinghy Championship on May 28, each lasting for three days. All of the events will be sailed in Club Flying Juniors (CFJs). These exciting events are the highest caliber regattas in the collegiate sailing year and are the culmination of two seasons of intense competition.

The racing will take place in St. Petersburg, Fla. at the Magnuson Hotel Marina Cove on Tampa Bay hosted by the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg with Eckerd College and St. Petersburg Yacht Club. This is the first Spring National Championships hosted by the University of South Florida – they have hosted the Single-Handed (2010) and Sloop (2008) National Championships previously.

Great racing is expected on Tampa Bay, which is a large but shallow body of water that can provide a variety of conditions from choppy to flat to wavy waters. To learn more about which teams are competing and to follow the results and racing live visit the event website.

Volunteers from the host schools, University of South Florida and Eckerd College, will provide live updates from the racing venue throughout the ten days of racing, which can be found by clicking on the Live Media link on the regatta website.

Additionally Chris Love Productions will be on site to provide video highlights throughout the final two days of the Sperry Top-Sider/ICSA Women's Nationals and live streaming video coverage during the final two days of the ICSA/APS Team Race Nationals. This year’s video coverage is provided by LaserPerformance. Find coverage using LiveStream.

The 2013 ICSA National Championships begin today with the Sperry Top-Sider/ICSA Women’s National Championships. The first two days of racing are the National Semi-final Championship in which 18 schools compete to see which nine will go on to the finals. The finals begin May 23 in which the nine teams from Semi-finals join nine schools that have already qualified by placing at the top of their district championship. Teams will compete for the Gerald C. Miller Trophy.

The Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) is the governing authority for sailing competition at colleges and universities throughout the United States and in some parts of Canada. Visit College Sailing to learn more.
