Team Gordon Ingate eighth at 5.5 Metre Worlds
by Di Pearson on 3 Sep 2003
Gordon Ingate, with his crew Mark Downer and Tony Hearder sailing My Shout, finished a credible 8th in the 5.5 Metre Worlds sailed in Benodet, France.
Starting August 24, the Worlds were hosted by Yacht Club de l'Odet, at the mouth of the Odet River.
Twenty-three entries contested the seven-race windward/leeward series. All but the Australians and one other entry were from Europe, where the 5.5 is still very popular, particularly in the Nordic countries.
Ingate, now in his seventies, and who is still predominantly recognised for his Australian contribution to the America’s Cup, was representing the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron.
