Atlantic Cup Day 1 - All is good on board GryphonSolo2

by Joe Harris on 12 May 2013
Tristan Moulignac and Joe Harris on Gryphon Solo 2 in Charleston SC. Atlantic Cup 2012 GryphonSolo2
The Atlantic Cup presented by 11th Hour Racing, got underway today May 11th, in Charleston, S.C. Joe Harris, skipper of GryphonSolo2, provides an on board update:

e are about 4.5 hours in to the 2013 version of the first leg of the Atlantic Cup and things are going well. All of our six competitors are nearby, so it looks like the racing will be close.

After a poor start where a last-minute wind shift put us in a bad spot, we have recovered and are now cranking along at about 13 knots headed toward Cape... Fear and then Cape Hatteras.

GryphonSolo2 is a boat that loves big air reaching and running (so does her owner), and this is exactly what we are doing.

With the wind behind us, we first put up our A3 gennaker, but then thought we needed more horsepower so changed to the big red A2 running kite and we have been blasting along since then.

All is good onboard - Tristan and I are trading off steering and navigating and hoping this wind will hold long enough to get us around Cape Hatteras.

It has become a bit cloudy, but the temperature is nice and overall conditions on the boat are good.

A good evening to Gryphonsolo2 website
