Sail Repair - Rainbow Warrior North Sails

An urgent sail repair for the Greenpeace yacht Rainbow Warrior was aided by North Sails Sydney Service Manager Nick Beaudoin when he was called into action last week.
The vessel, on its way up the east coast of Australia on route to PNG, suffered catastrophic sail damage while outrunning a tropical cyclone.
While in port in Cairns, the sail needed to be repaired with a short turnaround so the yacht could keep to its campaign schedule.
Nick was then on a plane first thing in the morning from Sydney to get them back on their way. The 58m Yacht has its own sewing machine and the crew had removed the furling sail and set up a special sail repair room onboard the vessel.
Unfortunately the sewing machine onboard could not handle sewing through the thickest part of the sail. This job would have to be completed the old fashion way, by hand.
17hrs later and the sail was back in working order. The head webbings had been been beefed up and extended as the sail would not be serviced until it was back in the USA.
Come morning, job done, Nick was headed back to Sydney with a very sore hand!
