The greatly anticipated Cork Dry Gin Calves Week was launched on Wednesday 8th May at Blackrock Castle, Cork Harbour. Just fourteen weeks away and the anticipation is building throughout the sailing community.

Sailors from Kinsale Yacht Club, Royal Cork Yacht Club as well as West Cork clubs Baltimore and Crookhaven joined with Schull Harbour Sailing Club yesterday to toast Cork Dry Gin Calves Week 2013, which will consist of a four day racing series, including a race around the Fastnet Rock.

Frank Murphy, Commodore of SHSC proposed a toast to the renewed sponsorship from Cork Dry Gin, saying 'We are delighted to strengthen our relationship with an esteemed brand such as Cork Dry Gin sponsoring this year's event and look forward to a very successful festival.' Peter Morehead, Production Director, Irish Distillers also spoke saying 'We are very pleased to support Cork Dry Gin Calves Week again this year. It’s a fun event combining great sailing, great scenery and great craic. Perfectly balanced you might say, like Cork Dry Gin'.

Also at the reception at Blackrock Castle were Harry Hermon ISA CEO, Pat Barrett Crosshaven Yacht Club and Ger Grant from Kinsale Yacht Club.

Cork Dry Gin Calves Week will take place from Tuesday the sixth to Friday the ninth of August, which will allow for visiting yachts to take part in the local regattas of Baltimore, Crookhaven and Schull. This year there will be a cap of 60 boats competing so early entry is advisable.

The overall presentation of prizes, closing ceremony and live entertainment will light up Schull Main Street each evening. The festival will feature nightly fun and live entertainment around the village for both adults and children. There are plenty of activities during the day for the non-sailors to ensure everybody has a thoroughly enjoyable week.

Check out Schull Harbour SC for further information and to register and follow the event on Facebook.
