The offshore race, which began on Wednesday at around 12 o’clock in the afternoon lasted over 24 hours. The arrival of the first group B, which raced 80 miles, was seen at around 6.45 in the morning of today. However, the group of large boats, which raced 120 miles showed up many hours later, in the afternoon.
Perfect race for Mauro Pelaschier, local talent of Trieste, who ended up winning the race on board of ‘Shaula’ thus taking over second place in the overall results, which is now led by Lorenzo Bressani on board of ‘Wind’. Second place for ‘Matrix’ followed by ‘Naos’.
‘Telefonica Movistar’ the boat helmed by the owner Giorgio Goldoni from Treviso, came in 11th despite their excellent recuperation after the anticipated start (ocs) on Wednesday. ‘We managed to recuperate’, explains Alberto Leghissa team manager, ‘during the night we managed to stay ahead of our direct adversaries but near Umago we found a lack of wind and unfortunately the other boats passed us’.
The identical boat of ‘Telefonica Movistar’, a Rodman 42 designed by Vrolijk, ‘World Cargo’ crossed the finish line only minutes before but now the direct duel between the two boats is even stronger as only a few points distinguish them in the overall results.
For the B Group, the winner is ‘Città di Jesolo’, who remains in the lead in the overall class. Second place for Fausto Pierobon’s ‘Sagola’ third place for ‘Lunica’. Pierobon explains ‘we made some excellent tactical choices during the night and we took advantage of the nocturnal breeze which helped us maintain a second place rating in this race.’
Tommorrow are expected two races starting at 11 o’clock.
Among the members of the ‘Telefonica Movistar’ crew are:
Fulvio Manuelli, Andrea Marengo, Andrea Bussani, Alberto Leghista, Daniele Augusti and Alessandro Alberti, all from Trieste and it’s immediate surroundings.
G.B. Ballico from Udine, Riccardo Guerra, and Giorgio Goldoni from Treviso and Federico Boldrin from Mestre, Venice.
