RYA Jet Ski Championships - Round 2 set for Rother Valley Country Park

by Emma Slater on 23 Apr 2013
RYA Powerboat racing
For the second round of the JSRA British RYA Jet Ski Championships, this weekend, over 50 racers will be competing for both valuable championship points and the 15 championship titles up for grabs in 2013.

During round one at Tattershall in Lincolnshire, youngster Cameron Green (15, Derbyshire) in the Junior Ski class took an early lead in the championship campaign securing wins in all three of his motos to win the round. Meanwhile former British RYA JSRA Open Runabout Champion Ria Pope made a comeback to the class dominating in all three motos to win the opening round of the championship; success she will look to continue in round two.

For the stand-up jet ski classes a log jump has been introduced, which is always entertaining for the crowds. Racers aim to get the best line over the log jump getting enough air to clear it but not too much to go awry!

Rother Valley Country Park is a popular venue for Jet Ski racing and has been since the early 90’s.

This weekend racing will take place on the larger lake in the country park which provides excellent spectator viewing area around three quarters of the lake. The lake can be quite shallow in places which means the water chops up which can provide very taxing conditions for all the racers.

Racing takes place on both Saturday and Sunday with riders competing in three motos over the duration of the weekend. On water action gets underway at around 10am on both days as the water is opened for mandatory practice.
