Gosford to Lord Howe Island Race - Celebrations at Pinetrees boatshed

Hempel Gosford to Lord Howe Island Yacht Race 2013 - Celebrations have begun on Lord Howe Island for the crew of Southern Excellence II who have taken Line Honours in the 39th edition of the famous offshore race.

With the boat safely moored in the South Passage, the crew were ferried to Pinetrees beachfront boatshed for the ceremonial awarding of the Pinetrees Cup.



Manager Jim McFadyen greeted Skipper Andrew Wenham and his crew who will all be staying at the guesthouse, to handover the coveted award.

Wenham has described the last 24 hours as a lovely sail, but was not so complimentary about the first 48 hours of the race, which he described as difficult and frustrating.



The crew have now tucked into breakfast with Pinetrees but not after crew member and World Champion Moth sailor Josh McKnight took it upon himself to fill the cup with the traditional Rum and Cola.



The official presentation will be held at The Anchorage Restaurant and Bar Wednesday 1700hrs, providing that the race placings have been decided at that Hempel Gosford to Lord Howe Island Yacht Race website
