Techno T293 South American Championship 2013 - American dominance

by Tamme Flood on 2 Apr 2013
Ready to start - Techno T 293 South American Acw Cordoba
The Techno T293 South American Championships concluded this Monday, April 1, with almost 40 racers between advanced and beginners from five countries. As the preferred class for youth keeps growing in numbers and in countries participating…so does the competitiveness of the Americans.

Team USA was represented by three young athletes from Miami, and competed against the best from Brazil, Argentina, Peru and Uruguay. With no expectation other than gain experience and keep the pace with the best in the continent and keep the rhythm toward the European tour planned for the summer, all three Americans proudly stood in the podium leaving empty handed three out the six podium slots available.

Maximo Nores took a third place in U17 as his brother Geronimo brought home the gold in the U15 division. Steven Cramer managed to fight his way back to the third place on the last day of racing after having survived some tough conditions the day before.

Five days of racing, with predominant strong winds on the range of 18+ knots on the first 3 days made their success much more enjoyable since the Miami sailors are more known for their light wind skills.

'All I wanted is to keep on racing as the wind died!' said Steven Cramer 'because that is how we like it… but still very happy with our result and most importantly, with the whole experience and the friendliness of all the racers' he added.

The three racers are part of the No Excuses team and train in the Miami Yacht Club. As they set their eyes on the Techno T293 Worlds to take place in Sopot, Poland later this summer, the training just started for this young team of racers. As customary lately, more than 400+ racers are expected, and experience will be Techno T293 South American Championships
