Octopussy - Australian Sports Boat Association National Championships 2013 Teri Dodds http://www.teridodds.com
The Australian Sports Boat Association (ASBA) National Titles at the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria completed a busy schedule of four races on Day 2 after only completing one race on Day 1. The breeze was patchy throughout the day and never exceeded 12-14 knts in the biggest puffs. The series has now reached the half way point with five of ten races completed.

In the overall results NSW boat Zippier (Andrew Waugh) leaded the defending champion Kaito (Tom Kelly) by 2.5 points and then another 3.5 points to Octopussy (Rees Howell).

The first two races of the day where the lightest of the day providing two different winners on corrected time with seconds separating the minor placings.

With a bit more puff in the last two races, Octopussy really shone and put together two wins (one a dead heat with Circus School (Ben Leigh-Smith)) to move them up the leader board to sit third overall.

In Division One, Zippier leads Kaito by one point to race one winner Excel (Bruce Hollis) in third.

It’s even tighter in Division Two with Octopussy leading Monkey Business (Cam Rae) by.5 of a point and another 1.5 points to Circus School.

The results under the SMS Rating system are proving to be very close in most races with ten seconds making as much difference as five overall places in any given race. .

So with five races still to be completed, Zippier will be hoping for the breeze to remain light, Octopussy ordering some more breeze and Kaito hopeful of nothing in between. The guys sitting in fourth, fifth and sixth are also still in the hunt, only a few points behind when dropping their worst result.

Day 3 will be the make or break day with another 3 races scheduled. Forecast for Easter Sunday is again for breeze around the 10-15knt mark and similar again on Monday for the final two races.

Hope the Easter Bunny is nice to you.
