The Australian Sports Boat Association National (ASBA) Titles at Royal Yacht Club of Victoria got underway on Friday with two races scheduled. Out good friend Huey, had different ideas though providing just enough of the good stuff to complete one of these.
After a number of years out of the class, Bruce Hollis (Excel) returned to Sports Boat racing with a faultless race taking the win on SMS overall and in Division 1, collecting the coveted Magnum of 3 Oceans Shiraz.
Second was the other member of Team Ullman, Zippier (Andrew Waugh) followed by Circus School (Ben Leigh-Smith) from Southport Yacht Club.
Conditions where light and faded for the second half of the fleet on the last leg but it was the second work that was the make or break leg of the course with slightly more breeze to the right.
Credit to some in the fleet for hanging in there and completing the course while others gave their motors a run to head back to the club for the 2013 Association AGM.

A big thanks to members of the outgoing committee for their years of service and especially to Cam Rae (Monkey Business) who has been on the executive since the formation of ASBA in 2007.
The 2014 National Titles are scheduled for Fremantle Sailing Club in January 2014 and it will be great to have a WA based president in the chair for the event. Brett has also committed Crank to making the trip to Perth for his fifth ASBA Nationals.
Racing continues today, with some more breeze we hope, with four races scheduled and racing starting from 11am local time. The fleet is then heading out to Hogs Breath Cafe for the regatta dinner and no doubt lots of 'talk it up'.
