Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) has granted an exclusive use aquatic licence for the safe staging of a water ski race on the Murray River at Mildura at the weekend.
RMS Maritime Principal Manager South Craig Whitmore said boaters should keep clear of sections of the river as follows:
• On Saturday from 7.30am to 2pm between 888 kilometre river marker one kilometre downstream of the Mildura Ski Club and the 938 kilometre river marker at Wickett’s Point
• On Saturday from 2pm to 5pm between the 888 kilometre river marker one kilometre downstream of the Mildura District Ski Club and the 904 kilometre river marker at Psyche Bend
• On Sunday from 7.30am to 5pm between the 888 kilometre marker one kilometre downstream of the Mildura Ski Club and the 938 kilometre river marker at Wickett’s Point.
'This area will be used exclusively for the safe staging of a swim event organised by Mildura District Ski Club,' Mr Whitmore said.
'For safety reasons, skippers should avoid this area as it will be closed for the event.
'The event will be completed when a ski club vessel at the rear of the competing vessels displays a green flag with the words ‘race finish’,' Mr Whitmore said.
Mr Whitmore said vessels would not be permitted to enter the exclusive use area unless authorised by a boating safety officer or a police officer.
